After weeks of lockdown, children's laughter can be heard again in kindergartens and daycare centres. Now everything depends on proper hygiene measures in kindergartens. This way, the institutions can contribute to keeping the number of infections low. We tell you what is mostly important.
Hygiene measures during drop-off and pick-up times
- Kindergartens should reduce the number of parents during drop-off and pick-up hours by scheduling special drop-off and pick-up times for every kid.
- If possible, parents should not enter the day care centre, but hand over their children to the pedagogical staff in the foyer.
- To avoid an accumulation of children in the cloakroom area during drop-off and pick-up times, floor markings are a simple and efficient way to remind children to keep their distance.
Hygiene tips for educators
- Air group rooms once an hour for about five minutes.
- Make sure that the children keep their distance as much as possible.
- Avoid games with hand-holding and physical contact.
- Avoid hand and body contact as much as possible.
- Washing hands is effective in slowing down the spread of the virus. Hands should be washed thoroughly for at least 30 seconds on a regular basis.
Hands should be washed in the following situations:
- after touching objects and toys that have been used by several kids
- after blowing the nose, sneezing or coughing into the palms of the hands
- after using the toilet
- before going home
- before eating, preparing and serving meals
- after dirty tasks or contact with bodily fluids
Our advice: When hand washing, use moisturising and hygienic soaps. Because frequent hand washing with the wrong product can dry out the skin.

Hygiene measures for surfaces
