GOJO Industries supports the work of the charity organization Topolino

GOJO Industries could not be prouder to support the well-known Romanian charity organisation "Topolino". The non-profit association provides help and donations to hospitals in Bucharest for the treatment of newborns. Topolino is also there for the desperate parents.

Help others in need

Behind the foundation of the charity organisation Topolino lies a sad and at the same time encouraging story. After founder Simona Olaru has given birth to a baby-son, she has to cope with a blow of fate. Her baby is seriously ill and the doctors do not see a serious chance of survival. Nevertheless, they try everything to save the child's life. Simona has to watch as her newborn endures eight operations, two resuscitations, two morphine withdrawals, and plenty of medical procedures in Romanian and Italian hospitals.

Dr. Catalin Carstoveanu, a leading specialist in neonatology in Romania, and his team are the ones who treat the little boy. One day, Catalin Carstoveanu had tried to resuscitate little baby Alex for more than five hours. "But at some point I realised that I had to let my baby go," Simona recalls. "While the doctor stopped the medical procedure, I took my baby's little hand and told him: 'Mummy lets you go!'" After this emotional moment, the little boy stabilized and the mother realized how strong is the bond between a mother and her child!

During this intense experience with her child, Simona made an important promise to herself: "I wanted to help others in need." No sooner said than done and Simona Olaru founded the Topolino association. For four years now, the members of the charity association have been visiting various intensive care units to take care of sick and lonely children. And they are there for the despairing parents. Often it does not need more than a handshake or some encouraging words to give them back confidence and hope.

Donation of items that children need to survive

But that is not all. Furthermore, the association provides the little patients with important items that the children need to survive. Disinfection solutions for example, play a major role in neonatology. Newborn babies are most susceptible to illnesses because their immune defence is not yet fully developed . Thus, an infection with a hospital germ must be prevented at all costs. This can only be ensured with perfect hygiene routines.

The neonatal unit of Bucharest's Marie Curie Hospital is now perfectly equipped with PURELL® wall-mounted disinfectant dispensers which were placed in washrooms, near doorways and in the hospital rooms directly above the beds. Thanks to the support of Simona Olaru’s Help-Association doctors and nurses can reliably sanitise their hands and children become a better chance to survive.

Saving lives and enhance the well-being of human beings

Good to know: the new installed dispenser systems contain the sanitising gel PURELL VF+ Hygienic Hand Rub which is scientifically-tested and kills 99.99 percent of the most harmful germs. In addition, the hand disinfectant contains moisturisers that help to keep the skin healthy and leave a pleasant feeling on the skin.

This year Simona invited GOJO to be a part of DIP Congress (Disability Inclusion Perspectives) organized by the Topolino Association.  Cătălin Zlatco Iancovici, Sales Manager Eastern Europe at GOJO Europe: "We couldn’t be happier to support Simona Olaru in her projects. Our mission is to save lives and enhance the well-being of human beings. It fills me with pride to be able to contribute to the health of so many little babies.”
